Kenneth L. Hitchings

Kenneth L. Hitchings, 64, of Eldora, IA, died Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Des Moines, from complications from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, November 10, 2008 at Creps-Abels Funeral Home, Eldora. A gathering will take place from 9:30 AM until service time at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Marshalltown at a later date. The Cremation Society of Central Iowa is assisting the family. Survivors include his children, Hayley Kalous (Tom) of Cedar Rapids; Tyson Hitchings of State Center; Mother, Alice Hitchings of Zearing, IA; Brothers, James Hitchings of Emery, TX, Charles (Charlotte) Hitchings of Waterloo, Marvin (Nora) Hitchings of Ames, IA; Sister, Marian "Jeanette" Gibson (Keith) of Burlington, IA. Also surviving is a granddaughter, Elizabeth "Libby" Kalous; grandson, Brady Kalous both of Cedar Rapids, IA and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father. Kenneth Leroy Hitchings was born March 18, 1944 in Marshalltown, IA, the son of Marion & Alice (Chinn) Hitchings. He was a Retired Veteran, having served in the U.S. Army, serving two tours in Vietnam, and later the Iowa National Guard. He married LeaAnn Poling September 16, 1978; they later divorced. He worked as a cook at the Iowa Training School in Eldora until his retirement in 2006. Ken was an avid motorcycle enthusiast, a hobby he enjoyed greatly after his retirement. He also was a fan of the Dallas Cowboys and had many devoted friends with whom he enjoyed spending time.
