Bennie J. Howe, 83, of Columbus Junction, passed away peacefully at his home after an extended illness with his family at his side on November 29, 2008. Per his wishes, Bennie was cremated. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Survivors include his wife of 62 year Helen of Columbus Junction; daughter Diana and her husband Kent Hickman of Anthem, AZ; son Duane Howe of Kansas City, MO; granddaughter Angela Howe of Kansas City, MO; grandson Matt and his wife Malia Howe of Rochester, MN; great granddaughter Jillian Michelle of Rochester, MN; and two sisters Patricia and Joan. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Jeannie Howe; and one brother James William Howe who passed away while serving his country in the Korean War. Bennie Junior Howe was born August 5, 1925 in Mystic, IA the beloved son of William Orville and Jeannie (Boslem) Howe. He was united in marriage to Helen M. Lowe on June 1, 1946 in Mystic, IA. He was a graduate of Mystic High School. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy during World War II seeing extensive action in the South Pacific. Bennie was a chief clerk for the Rock Island Railroad for 42 years before his retirement on July 1, 1986. In his younger years Bennie was an avid outdoorsman. Final resting place will be in Mystic, IA.
