Leland Jay Hart

Leland Jay Hart, 91, of Oskaloosa, IA passed away, Monday, March 10, 2008 at Crystal Heights Care Center less than three weeks before his 92nd birthday. Lee was born in Victor, IA on March 28, 1916 to Walter and Ethel McAdams Hart. He proudly served in the Navy during WWII. He retired as Postmaster of Oskaloosa after serving over twenty-five years with the Postal Service. Lee was active his entire life in the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine and free masonry having earned his fifty year award. He was also a member of the American Legion, Post #34. He was an avid fisherman and always willing to share a story. Survivors include his son, Larry (Karen) Hart of Oskaloosa; one daughter, Linda (William) McCarthy of Des Moines; four grandchildren, Brent Hart, Jason Hart, Kevin (Marcy) McCarthy, and Kim (Randy) Banks; three great grandchildren and a step-sister, Vera Ochs of Tampa, FL. Per Lee''s wishes, he was cremated. A Masonic Memorial service will be held on Friday, March 14, 2008 at 7:00 pm at Bates Funeral Home in Oskaloosa.
