William Parry Hanke

William Parry Hanke, 74, of Denison, Iowa died Monday, June 23, 2008 at his home, surrounded by his family. A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 7, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at the Asbury Methodist Church in Webster City, Iowa. William is survived by his wife, Mary, six daughters; Christine (Greg) Thompson of Webster City, Elisabeth (Kenny) Olson and Linda (Ron) Shillington all of Creston, Margaret Hanke and Molly (Scott) Meyer all of Denison, and Katharine (Chad) Fenn of Jewell, and three sons; William (Nancy) Hanke of Sioux City, Bruce Hanke of Webster City, and Christopher Hanke of Denison. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, his brother James Hanke, Jr. of Cedar Rapids, and his beloved cat, Ivan. He is preceded in death by his parents James and Marion Hanke. He was born on May 19, 1934 in Webster City, Iowa. He married Mary Furman on December 6, 1953. He served 22 years in the National Guard and retired with the rank of SFC-E7. He retired from Farmland Foods in 1995. He enjoyed reading, especially about the Civil War and history. He was also interested in genealogy and loved his St. Louis Cardinals.
