Obituary for Galen Kenneth Swartz

Galen Kenneth Swartz, 94, of Adel, IA died Monday, June 23, 2008 at the Panora Nursing & Rehab Center. On Friday, June 27, 2008 a memorial service will be held at 11 am at Panther Creek Church of the Brethren, 2447 J Circle, Adel, IA. Galen is survived by his three children, Becky Swartz of Adel; Jeff Swartz of Dexter; and Pat Goldsberry of Minburn; one sister, Helen Lundgren; and two granddaughters, Cassie Lincoln and Amy Calvetti. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, sister and parents. Galen was born June 14, 1914. He was adopted by Ira and Myrtle Snyder Swartz. He graduated from Redfield High School in 1932. After high school he attended a commercial school for two years. He married Ruby Royer on June 28, 1946 in Adel, IA. After his retirement from farming for 40 years, he worked at the Des Moines Golf & Country Club for 12 years. Galen loved collecting, fixing, and restoring clocks. He also enjoyed woodworking. He will be greatly missed. Memorials may be sent to Hospice of Central Iowa.
