Mary Kathleen Michalek

I too, loved Mrs. Michalek. I loved sharing with her red puppet. I was so jealous of a classmate of ours because she was held back, I begged my mom to hold me back also. I, too, lost my mother Mary Jane Heishman, 66, July 10, and I know the ache in your hearts all to well.

Dear Kathleen: The warmth and love that accompanied you everywhere you went will always be cherished by those privileged to have spent time with you. I always chuckle when I remember the time you gave a young, first term Congressman,Jim Nussle, a finger wagging lecture when it looked like he might vote wrong on a Pro-Life issue. He voted right! I am certain your countless hours devoted to the defense of the unborn have earned you an especially warm welcome in heaven. Rejoice !!! and be comforted in the knowledge that many follow your lead in defense of the sanctity of life. Bob

Mom loved our big old home in Belle Plaine and we have so many memories even though it was only a year. Her kids, grandkids and great grandkids were a daily joy and conversation. She was wealthy in heart, spirit, experiences and service. I think I have the best Mom. Rita

Kathleen and I had many hours of time together travelling back and forth to Cedar Falls to college. We shared many laughs and many stories. She will be missed very much. Carol

So sorry to hear of Kathy's death. I knew her from senior dining at Victor--she was a great lady. My memories of her are wonderful memories, ones I will cherish the rest of my life.

My sympathy to all of Kathleen's family. I loved her friendly smile, her faith, her leadership in school, music and church. I learned a lot from her and will miss her. God Bless each of you and bring you comfort and peace knowing that Kathleen is with Our Lord.

I was so sorry to hear of your loss. While growing up, I think that I spent almost as much time in your home as I did my own since Rita was my best friend. Kathleen and my mother, Carol McLennan were also very close. They attended college together in Cedar Falls. Mom played the organ for the church choir while Kathleen directed and I got to sing in the choir while in high school. I have many fond memories of Kathleen and know that you will remember all of the good times for the rest of your lives. My prayers are with you all. Nancy

I had Mrs. Michalek as my first grade teacher over 4o years ago. It is amazing that I can remember what a fine teacher and woman she was when sometimes I can't remember what happened yesterday. I always speak of her as my favorite teacher. May God comfort you with the knowledge that she has touched many young lives.

To Connie & the Michalek family, Mrs. Michalek was my favorite teacher of all time - including through college! She taught me in the first grade and I always loved her! She amazed me once when I was in college. I ran into her with my mom and she told me not only that she remembered me but what a challenge I had been since I was reading so well. She apparently gave me extra work to keep me busy without me even knowing it. I remember sitting around the little reading table with her and how she would hug us if we did great or if we stumbled over words - she truly made learning fun. I lost my own Mom in January so I know how your hearts are breaking. Know that even when I was in the first grade, she used to talk about how proud she was of all of you. I know that you will miss her terribly but know that she influenced so very many children in her lifetime. We are all blessed to have had her touch our lives. Patti Martin
