Lovetta Delores Benevento, 88, of the Kahl Home, Davenport, IA passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at the home following a lengthy illness. Per her wishes, she has been cremated. A memorial service will be held in Davenport in August and also in Hayward, California at a later date. Inurnment will be in Santa Clara Mission Cemetery, Santa Clara, California. The Cremation Society of Eastern Iowa is handling arrangements. Survivors include 2 brothers, Loren Carpenter of Decatur, IL and Jack Carpenter of Ruidoso, New Mexico. Also surviving are several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, her husband, parents, sister and 2 brothers. Lovetta Delores Carpenter was born December 4, 1919 in Brazil, IA the daughter of Vere & Henrietta (Philby) Carpenter. She moved to California in 1948 where she worked as a Bank Loan Officer for 17 years. On June 26, 1954 she married Nicholas Benevento in Reno, Nevada. For many years they owned and operated a restaurant in Oakland, California. She returned to Iowa in December of 2006.
