Armour Paul Mullin, 92, of Ottumwa, died Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at the Vista Woods Nursing Home in Ottumwa, Iowa. Per his wishes, Armour was cremated. A memorial service will be held in the Spring. Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Arlene of Ottumwa; two daughters, Maxine (Marwin) Bogue of Nisswa, MN, Dee (Steve Stillwell) Mullin of Ottumwa, IA; two sons, Roger (Charlene) Mullin of Huxley, IA, and Donald Mullin and Gladys Hiett of Helena, MT. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. Armour was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Alzada Combs, one sister and two brothers in infancy. Armour Paul Mullin was born November 13, 1915, in rural Kossuth County, Iowa, to Benjamin and Anna Mullin. He lived in that area for several years. They were farmers and lived in Luverne, Kanawha, Klemme, and Goodell. He was educated in the rural schools. On January 9, 1935 Armour married Arlene Groesbeck. Armour worked as a day laborer for several years then attended a welding school in Marion, Iowa. He worked in Cedar Rapids at the trade, and then moved to California to work in the Navy yard for one year. Armour enlisted in the Army and then returned to Iowa where he had his own welding shop in Kanawha. When his business burned down in 1953, he took a position at General Filter in Ames, Iowa, where he worked for several years. When the National Animal Disease Lab opened in Ames, he was one of the first hired in the welding shop area where he was employed for 17 years, retiring in 1977. Armour and Arlene sold their home the following year, bought an Airstream trailer and traveled the country for 16 years before returning to Ames. Armour was a loving husband, father, grandfather. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and loved him.
