Richard L. Knowlton

Richard "Dick" Knowlton, 79, of Ames, IA, went to be with the Lord Monday, February 18, 2008. Dick was formerly of Wichita, KS, Harrisonville, MO, La Monte, MO, and Oxford, KS. He had lived in Ames, IA since June 2005. Memorial Services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday February 29, 2008, at Westlink Christian Church 2001 N. Maize Road Wichita, KS, with inurnment in Oxford Cemetery in Oxford, KS at 2:30 P.M. The family will greet friends and family after 9:30 A.M. at the Westlink Christian Church. A reception will conclude the graveside at the Oxford Methodist Church in Oxford, KS. Richard Leon Knowlton was born December 17, 1928, near Oxford, KS, to Fred and May Knowlton. He graduated from Oxford High School in 1946 and attended Kansas State College where he met his future wife, Esther Page. They were married on September 11, 1949, in Rossville, KS. He was a farmer near Oxford until 1963, sold feed in LaMonte, MO until 1966, when he became a farm loan officer for the Production Credit Association in Harrisonville, MO. In 1978, he and his wife moved to Wichita, KS where he worked for the Federal Intermediate Credit Bank. In June 2005, he and Esther moved to Iowa to be closer to family. In Wichita, he was an active member of Westlink Christian Church, Dick and Esther enjoyed trips with friends in their fifth-wheeler covering large parts of the United States and Canada. His hobbies included woodworking, photography, and reveling in the camaraderie of his many close friends and relatives. He is survived by one daughter, Dixie Knowlton Day and husband, Al, of Ames; two sons, Matt Knowlton and wife, Kathy Doisy, of Columbia, Mo., and Chris Knowlton, of Kansas City, Mo.; five grandchildren, Kelly Day (Dan) Conner, Jamie Day (Miles) Morgan, Jessica Knowlton (Logan) Aguilar, Michael Knowlton and Stephen Knowlton; and three great-granddaughters, Moriah, Avery and Isabel Conner. His parents; his wife Esther; and three sisters, Maxine, Winifred, and Donabel preceded him in death. Memorials may be given to Westlink Christian Church Building Fund, 2001 N. Maize Road, Wichita, KS 67212.
