John A. Nelson

John A. Nelson, 79, of Marshalltown, died suddenly at the Iowa Veterans Home, Marshalltown, on Friday, December 26, 2008. Services will be held at a later date. The Cremation Society of Eastern-Central-Western Iowa is assisting with arrangements. John was born on January 21, 1929 at Tama, Iowa to Spencer C. and Jenifor (Lichty) Nelson. He graduated from Tama High School in 1947. He served eight years in the U. S. Navy during and after the Korean War. John was a member and Past Commander of the Tama American Legion Post 73. He is survived by his long time companion, Jeannene Rank and her two children; brother Spencer (Bob) Nelson (Darlene) of Tama and sister Marjorie Hoffman of Bellport, New York; four adult children in California and several nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents and brother and sister-in-law Richard and Joyce Nelson. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at the Iowa Veterans Home for the friendship and loving care John received.
