Obituary for James Leo Newton

James L. Newton, 61, of Lansing, IA, formerly of Waterloo, died Sunday, December 21, 2008 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa following a brief illness. A Celebration of Life will be held from 3:00-5:00 PM, Sunday, December 28, 2008 at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 1955 Locke Ave., Waterloo. The Cremation Society of Eastern Iowa is assisting the family. James was born October 24, 1947 in Waterloo, Iowa the son of James & Rita (Fischels) Newton. On September 13, 1969 he married Cathy Scovel and they later divorced. He then married Cecilia Edsill and they later divorced. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1965-1967. James was employed by the Waterloo Police Department as a detective from 1969-1991. After retiring from the Police Department he owned Newton Investigation & Security until his death. Survivors include his son, Shane of Conyers, GA; Daughter, Tracey Greene (Darren) of Wetumpka, AL; Granddaughters, Riley & Reagan Greene; Mother, Rita Newton of Waterloo; Brother, Dennis Newton of Techny, IL; Sisters, Kathy Miller (Gary) of LaPorte City & Candy McKern (Chris) of Kasson, MN. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Christopher, father and an infant brother, Terry.
