Albert Neil Nelson

Albert Neil Nelson, 75, of 4845 Johnson Ave. NW. died Tuesday Aug. 26, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center of leukemia. Memorial services at 12:30 AM on Friday at the Robins Church of the Brethren, 365 S. 2nd St. in Robins, Iowa. Chaplain Joe Kane will officiate The Cremation Society of Eastern-Central-Western Iowa is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include a daughter, Julie (Mike) Elam of Robins, a son, David of Cedar Rapids and a sister, Berneil (Robert) Clawson of Quitman, AR. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Sarah Cliff, Christopher, Casey and Lisa Edinger and Jason Nelson, two great grandchildren, Jayden Cliff and Melina Nelson. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Lucille Graham. Al was born on March 10, 1933 in Oxford, the son of Harley and Esther Barnes Nelson. He married Sandra McHugh in 1957 in Cedar Rapids. They were later divorced. Al was machinist at Dearborn Brass for several years, later he was the Marlboro Man of Iowa and most recently worked for Pharmacy Care Associates until his retirement. He enjoyed bicycling, Hawkeye Football and Basketball; his daily "Frosty''s" from Wendy''s, camping and proudly served in the Navy. Al was a caring and insightful person with a wonderful sense of humor. He was always the first to step forward and lend a hand with any job/task to be done. He will be lovingly remembered and never forgotten. Memorial donations may be given to Iowa State Resource and Enhancement Protection (a program to enhance Iowa''s bicycle and nature trails) in Al''s name.
