Jerry Michael Hadrava

I never had the pleasure of meeting Jerry. I do enjoy the hostas he hybridized and have several in my collection. My condolences to his family.

Jerry lives in my garden - where the paths are decorated with the iris, daylilies and hosta purchased at Blooming Hill. I remember asking Jerry why a person would pay a bunch of money to buy daylilies, when they could be dug up in the ditches along the roads. The answer to that naive question can be found in my garden, which has been enjoyed for quite a few years now by family and friends and strangers who have come here for garden and pond walks.

Dear Lela and Family one and all, Although the calendar would say we have known Jerry for just a short time, we feel as though we have known him forever. The advice and opinions he has "shared" are gifts that we treasure. He is a part of that land in so many ways. We will miss him and will always think of him as our neighbor.

Lela, My sincere sympathy to you and your family. Jerry will live on in many gardners hearts for years to come. Jerry’s memory is preserved in the passion, love, knowledge and each drip of sweat from his brow that he instilled in every plant that was acquired by each of us from Blooming Hills during the many years you both had it open. What could be a better legacy for him and you than to have touched so many people with knowledge and beauty of the quiet, simple pleasures of life? Each of us will continue to remember him year after year as we look upon our own gardens with the plants that came from Blooming Hills. Shed no tear - O, shed no tear! The flower will bloom another year. Weep no more - O, weep no more! Young buds sleep in the root's white core. - John Keats

Thank you, Lela, for sharing Jerry with Bob, Tyler & Julie. He taught them so much about hosta, and you guys were so instrumental in showing them the ropes and helping the Hosta Leaf become the success it is today. We will always remember Jerry through the Rosedale hosta that they have. Janet and Lenny Phelps

We at E.I.H.Q. were so saddened by the news that met us at the show. I am sure I met Jerry at your home and I could tell that he was a great man for having married such a wonderful woman as yourself. Please know that my prayers are with you. Carol
