Lawrence G. Meseck, 85, of Urbandale, IA passed away Thursday, November 15, 2007 at the Karen Acres Health Center in Urbandale, IA. Per his wishes, Lawrence was cremated. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2007 at 1:00 PM at the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church located at 904 Bluff Street, Cedar Falls, IA with a visitation starting at 12:00 PM at the church. Survivors include his wife Marjorie Meseck of Urbandale, IA; six children, Linda (Michael) Lewis of Cedar Falls, IA, David (Cindy) Meseck of Rochester, MN, Chuck (Patrice) Meseck of Thiensville, WI, Laura (Vernon) Dew of Kansas City, MO, Philip (Kathy) Meseck of Belvidere, IL, and Rebecca (Rick) Harmon of Des Moines, IA; one brother Lloyd Meseck of Houston, TX; two sisters, Arlene Grienke of Aurelia, IA and Cleora Slater of Storm Lake, IA. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Malinda Meseck and a grandson Denver Meseck. Lawrence G. Meseck was born December 20, 1921 in Storm Lake, IA the son of Arthur and Malinda (Kruse) Meseck. He married Marjorie Lois Widman on November 21, 1943 in Storm Lake, IA. Lawrence served his country in the United States Navy during WWII serving from August 2, 1944 till his honorable discharge on February 5, 1946. Lawrence received his BA degree from Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, IA and his MA degree from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, SD. Lawrence worked 19 years for the Lutheran Brotherhood Insurance in Northwest Iowa, 10 years as a Vocational / Rehabilitation Counselor in Carroll, IA, and 10 years as a Guidance Counselor in the Hinton Community Schools, Hinton, IA. Lawrence was a member of the Lutheran Church and the National Education Association. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, cards, dominoes, and his rock collection. Memorials maybe directed in Lawrence’s name to the Hospice of Central Iowa (401 Railroad Place, West Des Moines, IA 50265-4730).
