Deloris Gangestad-Thompson, 72, of Bancroft, IA passed away Friday, November 30, 2007 at the Kossuth Regional Hospital in Algona, IA. Per her wishes, Deloris was cremated. A memorial graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2007 at 2:00 PM at the Greenwood Cemetery in Bancroft, IA. Officiating will be Pastor Melstad of the St. John Lutheran Church in Lakota, IA. Survivors include her two daughters, Sheryl (Steve) DeLay of Poway, CA and Pamela (John) Kahler of Bancroft, IA; and one son Michael (Pam) Gangestad of Maple Grove, MN. Survivors also include four grandchildren, Jennifer Hinajosa, Elizabeth Giles, MacKenzie and Ryan Gangestad; plus one great grandchild Aaron Hinajosa. Deloris is also survived by two sisters, Carolyn Ellwood of Buffalo Center, IA and Tressie Thompson of Brooklyn Park, MN; and a stepdaughter Lynne Lutton of Bancroft, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents August and Fannie Schaumberg; first husband Marvyn Gangestad; one brother Walter Schaumberg; and a son-in-law Jasper Giles. Deloris Ann Schaumberg was born October 8, 1935 in Lakota, IA, the daughter of August and Fannie (Boeckholt) Schaumberg. She married Marvyn Gangestad on June 30, 1954 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. Marvyn preceded Deloris in death in 1978. Deloris married Merrill Thompson on November 17, 1984 at the Revere Lutheran Church in Revere, MN. They later divorced and Deloris moved back to Bancroft. Deloris was employed with the Welp Hatchery in Bancroft, IA for 35 years and for 3 years at the Homestead Bar and Restaurant in Lakota, IA. Deloris enjoyed bowling, fishing, playing bingo and gardening. She enjoyed the time she spent with her family and friends. Over the past several years Deloris embraced the new friendships she had made with the other dialysis patients and found comfort with them in her last weeks with us. Memorials may be directed to the family for memorial of family choice. Directly following the graveside service a luncheon will be served at the Senior Center in Bancroft, IA.
