Delmar L. Fleener

Delmar L. Fleener, 86, of Hills and formally of Iowa City, IA died Thursday November 22, 2007 at the Atrium Village in Hills of Pulmonary Fibrosis. A Private Family Graveside Memorial Service will be held at a later date at the Newton Union Cemetery in Newton. Delmar was born June 18, 1921 in Taopi, MN to Harry and Elsie Fleener. He moved to Newton, IA after returning from the European Theatre after serving with the 8th Air Force during WWII. He married Barbara J. Neal on May 15, 1954 in Des Moines. In 1986 he retired from Maytag after 41 years of service as Superintendent of Sheet Metal and Plating Department. His wife, Barbara, a daughter Jan and husband Kenneth II Caldwell of Iowa City, a grandson Kenneth III and wife Becky Caldwell, a great grandson Logan, one brother Bill and wife Charlene Fleener of CA , and stepson Robert Slatkoski and wife Katie survive Delmar. His parents, his son Jon, four brothers, and one sister preceded him in death. He was a member of the Methodist Church, Elks Club, The American Legion, and a life member of the Maytag Management Club. Memorials may be directed to the American Lung Association in Delmar’s name.
