Gretchen J. Burke

Gretchen Burke of the Eastern Star Home passed away March 14th, 2007 at the Boone County Hospital. She had been a resident of the Eastern Star since November 2005. She was born October 29, 1928, in Boone, the daughter of William and Lola (Ballantyne)Miller. She graduated from Boone High School and married Richard L. Hubby in 1947. In earlier years Gretchen worked as a telephone operator, and worked as a waitress at several Boone restaurants. She married Richard P. Burke in Aurora Colorado, November 1, 1970. Gretchen moved to Aurora, Colorado for 15 years returning to Boone in 1994. Gretchen was a long time volunteer, known as "Grandma Gretchen" for the foster grandparent program in the Boone Schools. She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing games with her friends at the Eastern Star. She is survived by two daughters, Lola Olberding (Thom) of Jacksonville FL., Georgia Robertson (Rick) of Boone. Eight grandchildren; Jessica Taylor-Erwin (James) of Des Moines, Graig Taylor of Clear Lake, Rachel and Rebecca Robertson of Boone, Lindsay Robertson of Chicago, Christopher Olberding of Jacksonville, FL , Ashley Olberding of Miami FL., and Heather Gonzales of Port Orchard WA. and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sons, Richard Hubby and Jeffery Hubby, and her husband Richard P. Burke.
