Mary Ellen Sistrunk
Mary Ellen Sistrunk, 84, of Columbus Junction, IA passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at the Colonial Manor Rehabilitation and Nursing Care in Columbus Junction, IA. Per her wishes, Mary was cremated. Mary is survived by two grandsons, Josh Sistrunk of Ft. Sam Houston, TX and Gabe Sistrunk of North Liberty, IA; stepson William Sistrunk; and stepdaughter Edna Mills. Mary was preceded in death by husband Ray Sistrunk; parents Howard and Ella Crawford; two sons, Steven and David Sistrunk; and brother William Crawford. Mary Ellen Crawford was born January 9, 1923 to Howard and Ella (Laird) Crawford in Ainsworth, IA. She married Ray Sistrunk on April 6, 1947 in Mobile, AL. Mary served her country in the United States Army from November 24, 1944 until her honorable discharge on April 1, 1946. Mary graduated from Ainsworth High School and received her nursing degree from the University of Iowa. Mary was employed as a Registered Nurse with the University of Iowa and with the Colonial Manor Rehabilitation and Nursing in Columbus Junction.
