Obituary for Kenneth Vaughn Tomkins

Kenneth V. Tomkins, 78, of Guttenberg, Iowa died Sunday, January 14, 2007 at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital. Per his wishes, Kenneth was cremated. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 20, 2007 at St. John’s American Lutheran Church in Guttenberg, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Kenneth is survived by his wife Carol Tomkins of Guttenberg, IA; two sons Rick (Sue) Tomkins of Moore, OK, and Roger Tomkins of Guttenberg, IA; one daughter Rhonda (Arlie) Houston of Panghurn, AK; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and three sisters Letha Moser, Katie Herman, and Lola (Curt) Meyer all of Guttenberg, IA. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Verna Tomkins, son Randy Tomkins, and brother Merle Tomkins. Kenneth was born November 20, 1928 to Frank and Verna (Hyde) Tomkins in Clayton County, Iowa. He married Carol B. Backes on November 1, 1952 in Guttenberg, IA. Kenneth served his country for 22 ½ years from 1948 till his honorable discharge and retirement from the United States Air Force on May 1, 1971. Kenneth was a member of the St. John’s American Evangelical Church of Guttenberg, IA.
