Harold Dee Fontinel

Harold D. Fontinel was born on August 30, 1937 in Tama County, the son of Frank and Lida (Ruttan) Fontinel. He attended rural Poweshiek County Schools, graduating from Grinnell High School in 1954. Harold farmed with his father and did custom work after graduation. He joined the Army Reserve in 1957, later receiving an honorable discharge. On November 2, 1958, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Hanus in Tama, Iowa. He continued farming and bought a farm south of Tama in 1966. He later joined his brother Robert in a building business. In the past few years, he worked for Kenneth Bidwell and the Meskwaki Casino. He was a member of the former Tama-Toledo Optimist Club and a member of the Living Faith United Methodist Church in Tama. Harold passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2007 at the Hospice Comfort House in Pella at the age of 69 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and baby sister Caroline. He is survived by his wife Marilyn of Tama; a daughter Ronda (Ron) Burnes of Tama; a son Damon (Paula) Fontinel of Pella; 3 grandchildren: Brittany Burnes of Iowa City, Cory Burnes of Des Moines, and Blake Fontinel of Pella; 4 brothers Robert of GA, Dennis of Toledo, Duane of AR, and Kim of Tama; 2 sisters Marge Breya of Toledo and Marsha Wolf of Cedar Rapids and many nieces and nephews. Harold will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A memorial service will be held at the Living Faith United Methodist Church in Tama, IA on Monday, January 15, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established to the Iowa River Hospice Marshalltown or Hospice of Pella.
