Donald Morris Esbeck

Donald M. Esbeck, 89, of Tipton, Iowa passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at the Cedar Manor Care Center in Tipton, Iowa. Per his wishes, Donald was cremated. The Cedar Manor memorial service date will be announced soon. A memorial service and burial in Elk Horn will be at a later date. Don is one of seven children. His living siblings are Ramona Esbeck of Ames, Thelma (Roy) Wehde of Greely, CO, and Gordon (Jan) Esbeck of Tipton. Many nieces and nephews also survive him. His parents, brothers Leland and Howard, and a sister, Marjorie, preceded him in death. In 1975 he was married to Johanna Nielsen; this union was dissolved in 1984. Donald Morris Esbeck was born on June 21, 1917, the son of William and Jensina Esbeck. He was born on a farm in Audubon County, near Elk Horn. He lived there until he enlisted in the army in 1942. After his time in the service, he returned to the Elk Horn area, where he lived most of his life. He moved to Tipton in 2000. Don graduated from Elk Horn High School in 1935. He worked on the family farm, in the construction of Interstate 80, and for the Garst Seed Corn Company. He was a member of the Danish Immigrant Museum, the Elk Horn Lutheran Church, and the American Legion. Memorials may be designated for Cedar Manor in Tipton or the Danish Immigrant Museum, P.O. Box 470, Elk Horn IA 51531.
