Rudolph J. Rudy Schultschik, 94, of 1410 32nd Street NE, died Thursday, August 23, 2007, in Manor Care following a long illness. Private family services were held. Arrangements by Cremation Society of Eastern, Central, and Western Iowa. Survivors include his wife of 66 years June, two children Richard (Karen) of Cedar Rapids, and Merry Jo Horak of Hiawatha, four grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and his sister Elizabeth Betty Morrissey of Eugene, Oregon. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister. Rudy was born in Hohenau, Austria on September 11, 1912 to Frank and Marie Balusek Schultschik. He came to the United States in 1925. He was a US Army veteran of WW II, serving with the 6th Infantry Division for 43 months, mostly in New Guinea and the Philippines. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for bravery going behind the front lines to pickup wounded soldiers. He was employed at Cherry-Burrell Corp for over forty-one years and retired in 1975. Rudy was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
