Obituary for Beverly J. Inman

Dr. Beverly J. Inman, 63, of Iowa City, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died August 25, 2007 at the Pleasant View Nursing Home, Kalona, following an extended illness. Per Beverly’s wishes, no services will be held. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements by the Cremation Society of Eastern Central Western Iowa. Survivors include her sister Dr. Barbara Beall and husband Howard of Broomfield, CO; nephew Brian Beall and wife LuAn of Broomfield, CO; niece Deborah Wall and husband Dee of Littleton, CO; grandnephew Joshua and Jason Wall; and grandniece Amanda Wall. She was preceded in death by her parents Gordon and Elva Gail Inman, and her grandparents. Dr. Beverly J. Inman was born June 17, 1944 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Gordon L. and Elva Gail (Spence) Inman. She graduated from Jefferson High School in 1962, and was a 1966 cum laude graduate of Coe College receiving her B.A. degree in German and History, and received a teaching certificate in 1965. She also received degrees from Northwestern University at the NDEA German Institute, and the University of Washington with Graduate Studies in Germanics. Her final degrees were received at the University of Iowa receiving an M.A in German History in 1969, as well as in 1984 a Ph. D. in German Language and Literature, and received a Ed.S. in Higher Education, in 1988. She received Fulbright Scholarships in 1976 in Germany, 2001 Czech and Slovak Republics. In 1991 she received a DAAD Fellowship from Cornell University, and in 1994 took part in the Loyola-Maryland Berlin Seminar. Throughout her education career she was employed by the University of Washington at Seattle, the University of Iowa, Quincy College, Geschwister Sholl- Schule in Hanover, Germany, Winona State University, Iowa State University, University of Memphis Tennessee, Talladega College, and Kirkwood Community College. She was the associate editor of Schats Kammer, and was a translator and author of various books and articles concerning German and Central European History and Culture. She was a member of the Fulbright Alumni Association, Delta Phi Alpha, the AATG, MLA, GSA, AAUP, and NAS. Her hobbies including German studies, book collection, antiques, and travel. Memorial Donations in Beverly’s honor may be made to the National Czech and Slovak Museum and Library of Cedar Rapids.
