Robert Eugene Stapp

Robert “Bob” Eugene Stapp, 76, of Columbus Junction, Iowa died Wednesday, October 4, 2006 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. Per his wishes, Robert was cremated. Memorial services will be held October 8 at 2:00 p.m. at the Columbus Junction United Methodist Church with the Rev. Cathy Whitlach officiating. A time of fellowship will follow the memorial service at the church. Robert is survived by his wife Marilyn Stapp of Columbus Junction, IA; five daughters Christy (Mark) Rueckert of Columbus Junction, IA, Bonnie (Tom) Wiele of Nichols, IA, Sherri (Jerry) O’Rourke of Tipton, IA, Joni (Bill) Lindsay of Phoenix, AZ, and Julie (Alan) Edmondson of Columbus Junction, IA. Bob had twelve grandchildren Bob and Dan O’Donnell, Kelly Hoback, Mandi Wulf, Jeff, Mick and Ashlee Wiele, Matt Rueckert, Lindsay Sponheim, Billy and Shelley Lindsay, and Molly Edmondson; plus three great grandchildren Caleb Wulf, Jeffrey and Trenton Hoback. Bob was preceded in death by his parents Everett and Josephine Stapp a sister Janet, two brothers Mick and Kirk and granddaughter Molly. Robert Eugene Stapp was born October 31, 1929 to Everett and Josephine (Griffith) Stapp in Columbus Junction, IA. He married Marilyn Rae Carey on March 24, 1951 in Muscatine, IA. Bob graduated from Cotter High School in Cotter, IA. He was employed with the United States Postal Service in Columbus Junction for 30 years, the last ten of which he served as Postmaster. Bob also farmed and was involved in standardbred horse racing as a breeder, trainer and driver. Bob was a member of the Allen Wright Hanft Post of the American Legion and a member of the Masonic Lodge A.F. and A.M. No. 107. Memorials may be directed to the Stapp family for a memorial of their choice.
