Walden Baker Mark

Walden B. Mark Jr., 81, of Burlington, Iowa passed away Thursday, November 2, 2006, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa. Per his wishes, Walden was cremated. The memorial service will be held on Monday, November 6, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at the Sperry United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Gaulke officiating. Friends may call at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Walden Baker Mark Jr. was born July 12, 1925, to Walden and Mary (Held) Mark Sr. in rural Sperry, Iowa. He married Shirley Lewis on October 3, 1948, in Burlington. Mr. Mark is survived by his wife, Shirley Mark of Burlington; two daughters, Christine (Arnold) Ferrel of Burlington and Carol Mark of Colorado Springs, CO; one son, Walden (Tami) Mark III of Colorado Springs, CO; one sister, Betty (Robert) Carlsen of Olds, IA; and one brother, Alfred (Naomi) Mark of Burlington; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister. Walden graduated from Sperry High School and served in the United States Navy during WW II. Walden was employed with the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown from 1971 until his retirement in 1988. He previously worked at the Leopold Company and IRC. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW Post 10102, Fraternal Order of Eagles and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 579. A memorial has been established in Walden Mark’s name.
