Robert L. “Rocky” Edwards, 59, of Monticello died Friday, November 24, 2006 at St. Luke’s Hospital following a sudden illness. Memorial Services: 11:00 A.M. Monday, November 27, 2006 at Peace United Church of Christ in Monticello. Friends may call from 2PM to 4:30 PM Sunday afternoon at the church where a Pythian Service will be held at 4:30 PM. The Rev. Peter H. Wenzel will officiate. Surviving in addition to his wife Connie are a son, Rob (Linda) Edwards of Monticello; a daughter, Carrie Ann (Fred) Smith of Anamosa; six grandchildren, Justin and Ciara Rose Edwards, Keegan, Samantha, Madison, and Lauren Smith; one brother, Thomas Jackson (Jack) Edwards; two sisters, Ruth (Russ) Gentz and Bobbie Nell (Cooter) Jackson from South Carolina; a brother-in-law, Calvin Schneiter of Marion; three sisters-in-law, Colleen and Corrine Schneiter both of Hiawatha and Colette (Paul) Knoll of West Virginia; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Rocky was born February 23, 1947 in Spartanburg, South Carolina. After his graduation Rocky moved to Monticello to live with his sister. He started working for George Bader’s Masonary in June 1965 where he was still employed at the time of his death. He married Connie Schneiter on August 5, 1967 at the First Presbyterian Church in Monticello. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1966 to 1972. Rocky was a member of the Knights of Pythians for 37 years. As a member of the Monticello Conservation League he enjoyed helping with the trap shoots and helped start a fund to upgrade the trap machine. Rocky enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing with his family and friends. He was well known for his fish fries. Rocky was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and will be missed by all who knew him. Arrangements by the Cremation Society of Eastern Iowa.
