Charles F. Simmons

Charles F. Simmons: 82, of 209 10th Street SE in Clarion, died Thursday morning, December 7 at USA Healthcare of Clarion after a courageous battle with cancer. Memorial services will be held Monday, December 11 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Christ in Clarion with Rev. Tim Platt officiating. Friends may visit with the family at a gathering at the church from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, December 10. Inurnment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion in the spring. Charles is survived by his two children, his daughter, Diana Keehn and husband Gary and his son Thomas Simmons and wife Anita, a sister Ruth Bohy of Clarion and his six grandchildren, Jeromy Keehn, Kimberly Keehn, Casey Simmons, Reggie Simmons, Teddy Simmons and Kirby Simmons and a great-granddaughter, Rylee Keehn. Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Janice, a bother, Glen, an infant brother and his parents. Charles was born March 18, 1924, the son of Dewey and Laura (Pester) Simmons. He attended Iowa State University where he studied engineering but was called back to the family farm during World War II. Charles married Janice Shillington on September 22, 1945 in Clarion. Janice died in 2000. Charles farmed for many years near his hometown. He also worked at Erickson Manufacturing Company for a number of years and drove semi for Pat Ennis. Charles loved to camp, build and fly model airplanes, but mostly he dearly loved his family and friends, especially watching his grandkids in sports. A memorial fund has been established in Charles’ memory.
