Othell Flowers, 74, of 1029 10th Ave. S.E., died August 24, 2006 in his home following a long illness. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at his residence on Saturday, August 26, 2006 from 2 PM to 6 PM. Arrangements by the Cremation Society of Eastern Central and Western Iowa. Survivors include his mother Nellie Davis of Cedar Rapids, daughter Vicky Blackmon of Mt. Washington, KY, daughter Denise E. Flowers-Brooks and husband Ralph of Germantown, MD, son William Flowers and wife Donna of Joliet, IL, son Othell “Eddie” Flowers of Swartz Creek, MI, son Arthur Flowers of Joliet, IL, son Jeffery Flowers of Cedar Rapids, daughter Brenda Johnson and husband Troy of Tupelo, MS, and brother Odell Flowers and wife Rosetta of Joliet, IL. Also surviving are numerous grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his father J.D. Flowers. Othell Flowers was born April 24, 1932 in Edwood, TN the beloved son of J.D. Flowers and Nellie (Bell) Davis. He was employed as a Crane Operator for The United States Steel Mill. He greatly enjoyed fishing. He was a loving son, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Cedar Rapids in honor of his mother Nellie Davis or to the Second Baptist Church in Joliet, IL in honor of his brother Odell Flowers. Special recognition to his close friend Ida Moore.
