Hurschel Miles O'Brien

Hurschel Miles O''Brien, 83, of 2405 Meadow Lane in West Des Moines died Friday, May 13, 2005 at his home after a long illness. A memorial service will be held at a later date. The Cremation Society of Eastern-Central-Western Iowa is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane, two brothers, Dean of North Highlands, CA and Jack of Council Bluffs, Iowa, three granddaughters, Lori, Lynn and Lisa, and eight great grandchildren, Jason, Kylie, Sierra, Devon, Matthew, Nathan, Taylor, and Chance, and a great-great granddaughter, Jessica all of Des Moines. Hurschel was preceded in death by a son Hurschel Jr., two daughters, Sheryll Ann Peddycoart and Peggy Jane O''Brien, his parents John and Wilhelmina (Vogel) O''Brien and one brother, Richard. Hurschel was born May 7, 1922 in Mason City. He married Mary Jane Thorne on June 28, 1942 in Albert Lea, MN. He began his career as a C.P.A. for Frank J. Enbusk and Company in Mason City. After moving to Des Moines in 1956, Hurschel continued to work as a self-employed C.P.A. for many years. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII on the USS Cabot in the South Pacific. He was also a member of the American Legion and attended Westover Baptist Church. Memorial donations may be given to Westover Baptist Church in Hurschel''s name.
