Louis “Jim” Messerli, 74, 321 Butler Street, Volga, a 27 year resident of Volga, died Tuesday, April 5, 2005 at the Northeast Iowa Christian Retirement Community in Strawberry Point following a long illness. Memorial Service: 11:00 A.M. Friday at the Catholic Church in Volga. Inurnment: Wadena Catholic Cemetery. The Rev. Paul Peters will officiate. Survivors include two sons, Clement Messerli and wife René of Marion and Daniel Messerli and wife JoLene of Nevada; a daughter, Katrina Panagiotopoulos and husband Michael of Plano, TX; three granddaughters; and three sisters, Mary Beldon of Marion, Sheilah Clark of Hot Springs, AR, and Aileen Pratt of Omaha, NE. Louis was born June 4, 1930 in Wadena the son of Clement and Naydia (O’Halloran) Messerli. Louis worked for Clayton County with the Clayton County Road Department for 20 years before his retirement in 1992. He was a member of the Volga American Legion. Louis served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, receiving a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. In lieu of flowers, a memorial to Dollars for Scholars has been established. Arrangements by the Cremation Society of Eastern Iowa.
