Obituary for Betty J. Gallagher

Former West Branch resident Betty J. Gallagher died Tuesday, August 24th, 2004, at the Oaknoll Retirement Center in Iowa City. She was 84 and had been afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease for a number of years. Betty and her late husband Pat Gallagher moved to West Branch in 1968. She was employed at the Herbert Hoover Memorial Library as an archivist, retiring in 1985, the same year she graduated with honors from the University of Iowa with a B.A. in History. Preceded by her husband in 1982, Betty is survived by her four children and their spouses: Nancy (Jon) Mendenhall, Fort Collins CO; Dennis (Lynda) Gallagher, Bella Vista AR; Kevin (Rose) Gallagher, Emigrant MT; and Steve (Carol) Gallagher, North Liberty IA. Also surviving are five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be in the Sheridan Township Cemetery near Grinnell IA. Arrangements by the Cremation Society of Eastern Iowa.
