Delbert Davidson

Private funeral services for Delbert Davidson will be held at a later date at Greenwood Cemetery near Westgate. His remains were cremated. Delbert Davidson, 87, of Horton, died Saturday, June 14 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo from complications of a stroke. Delbert was born in Butler County, the son of Pearl Pierson and John Davidson. He went to country school and Plainfield High School. In December, 1946, he married Ruby McClain at the Murphy United Evangelical Church near Westgate. He entered the armed services in March 1942 and served in the 496th Air Squadron Group 9 Air Force in the Eropean Theatre. He was discharged Dec. 20, 1945. Delbert farmed north of Waverly and worked for the Waverly elevtor and then purchased a portable mill and, in 1965, started Horton Feed and Mill, where he continued in the feed and soybean roasting business until his health failed in 1999. He continued to go to the store when he felt able. He is survived by his wife and three children, Delbert Douglas of Richfield, Minn., Richard and Lari of Milledgeville, Ill., Kristine and Tim Meier of Shellsburg; six grandchildren, Amy Armstrong, Lindsay and Drew Davidson and Scott, Samantha and Sean Meier; five brothers, Robert of Waverly, Alden ofAllison, John of Marrilton, Ark., and Glen and Tom of Couler Ridge, Ark. He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, James, Roy and Dale; and two sisters, Bernice Rambo and Edna Schellhorn. Memorials may be directed to the family.
