Jack Coleman

Jack Coleman, age 73, died Wednesday, April 30, 2003 at his home in Wapello. He was born April 19, 1930, the son of Raymond & Janie Harvey Coleman and step mother Hattie Hake Coleman at Ellington, Missouri. He married Velora Rexine Swanson on March 28, 1950 at Wapello, Iowa. Survivors include his wife, three daughters, Lindel & Scott Sandvigen of Snohomish, Washington, Karen & Ken Baughman of Groveland, Illinois, Lynette Miller of Wapello, three sons, Jack & Patty Coleman of Wapello, Donald & Kathi Coleman of Columbus City, Ronald Coleman of Oakville, one sister, Ruby Swanson of Oakville, and one brother, Arnold Coleman of Atalissa. There are 13 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren. Jack worked as a farmhand for several years & then went to the state of Washington to work as a logger from 1955 to 1960. He then worked for Hillyer Trucking Company out of Burlington for 20 years and retired from Heartland Express as a truck driver in 1995. After 30 years of trucking he became a member of the Caterpillar Million Miler Club. His hobbies included restoring his antique trucks, a 1954 Chevy Pickup and a 1940 Federal pickup. He loved to go to car shows and enjoyed drag racing. He was a loving husband, Dad, Grandpa, & brother. We are all going to miss him tremendously. He touched so many lives and showed so much kindness to everyone he met. He was a friend to everyone and a stranger to no one. All of his children can look around their homes and see their Dad’s helping hands. We miss you already Dad. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother, a daughter, and a sister. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 3rd at 2:00 p.m. at the Church of the Nazarene in Wapello. Rev. Don Swanson & Rev. Brent Smith will be officiating. A memorial has been established.
