Lucy Steffens

Lucy Steffens, 95, of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2024, at Hawkeye Care Facility.

Lucy was born on December 1, 1928, in Dubuque, Iowa, daughter of Gladys and Anthony Pino. She married Ike LaSoya Sr. in 1948, and from this union two sons were born. Lucy spent her early years working at the Dubuque Packing Company and raising her two beloved sons, along with anyone else who may have needed a place to live until they could get back on their feet. Her kindness had no boundaries.

She had a passion for the spiritual and psychic world, was an animal lover, especially her cats, and loved fishing with her grandsons.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Ike Jr. (Carol Lampier), and Carey (Nancy), both of Dubuque Iowa; grandchildren, Christopher (Candi) LaSoya of Clearwater, Florida, Nicole (Brian) Schlosser of Dubuque, Iowa; great grandchildren, Deante LaSoya of Dubuque, Iowa; Tazlynn LaSoya of Wausau, Wisconsin; Raymond, Sophia, Teddy and Joey Schlosser of Dubuque, Iowa, and three great grandchildren, Adalina Ray, Myles Kory and Oliver.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Ginny; brother, Henry; husband, Jerry Steffens; daughter-in-law, Linda LaSoya and grandson, Kory LaSoya.

Lucy’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Hawkeye Care Facility for the compassionate and exceptional care they showed Lucy in her six years of residency.

Per her wishes, no services will be held.  Memorials may be made to a local humane society in Lucy’s name.
