Betty L. Newman, 83, of Waterloo, passed away on Monday, May 6, 2024 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo surrounded by her loving family. There will be a private family burial. A memorial gathering may be held at a later date.
Betty was born on October 5, 1940 to Fred and Caroline (Redies) Schweer in rural Bremer County. She worked at Waterloo Industries for many years and retired in 1996. Then she performed her sewing alterations magic at Dillards Department Store in Waterloo until she retired in 2003. She continued to do alterations in her home until recently because she loved it so very much. She had a green thumb with gardens and yard that she was very passionate about. She loved playing cards and games of all kinds with anyone who she could rope in to playing. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was always up for a little fun. She adored Elvis and Alan Jackson country music and went to numerous concerts when she could. Most importantly she was a wonderful mom and an even better grandmother. Nothing was more important to her than her family.
Left to cherish her memories is her children, Survived by Lisa Finn-Nissen (Mike) Lynn Bjorklund (Dale) grandsons Joe, Chris and Zach and great grandsons Phillip and Ryan. Brother Lavern (Esther) Friends by the hundreds, all over the country.
