Joseph D. Starkweather Sr.

Joseph D Starkweather Sr., 71, of Letts, passed away on April 25, 2024, at his home.   A Celebration of Life will be held at The American Legion 110 S. Houser St. Muscatine, IA on June 7, 2024, at 5:00 pm.

Joe was born in Letts, IA on May 4, 1952, to parents Albert (Jake) Louis Starkweather and Ila Mae Starkweather.  After graduating from L&M in 1971 he served in the National Guard before marring Tina (McCleary) in 1975. They had two children together before divorcing. 

During the years Joe enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, trapping, buckskinning, building fish traps, taking long drives, raising sheep and watching over his son's farm animals.  Joe enjoyed visiting with family, friends and neighbors, telling stories and keeping up on the town news. Joe was also a talented musician playing the drums. Joe worked at GPC until retirement in 1993.

Joe is survived by one sister Kathy Caldwell of Washington State, Children; Angela Starkweather of Wapello, Joseph Jr. (Bethany) Starkweather of Letts, Grandchildren; Autumn Starkweather, Ethan Miller, Maxwell Volkl and Barrett Starkweather. 

 He is proceeded in death by his parents, brother and grandson.

Any donations can be made in Joe' s name to the Letts Public Library.
