George H. Curtis, Jr.
George H. Curtis Jr (55), of Cedar Rapids, Iowa - adventurer, storyteller, and wanderer - has gone on to explore whole new realms and has passed from us on April 24th, 2024. George is survived by his wife Amy, father George Sr, brother Jeff Curtis, Jeff’s wife Chalie Livingston, and their daughter Madelyn. George is preceded in death by his mother Marjo Curtis.
George came from Missouri to attend the University of Iowa, where he later began work for KCRG-TV9 in Cedar Rapids. He was an editor, a writer, a producer, a director - but it was in commercial production where he could let his creative side soar. George won several awards while in this position.
He left KCRG for a time to work at Yellowbook, where he was only considered every graphic designer’s favorite boss.
George arrived chock-full of tales of his misspent well-spent youth in Private School, his amazing and endless adventures working with a cast of characters at Worlds of Fun in Kansas City. George would often refer to himself as a ‘weirdness magnet’ and several eyewitnesses can confirm.
George enjoyed Sci-fi movies and TV shows best, had a passion for history, and a soft spot for the fourth Dr. Who. He loved ELO and experimental Icelandic folk metal. He collected swords, Viking regalia, and had numerous other hobbies.
George was a volunteer for several local groups; among them, the SaPaDaPaSo and H.A.G.G.I.S societies. George was also a proud member of the Society for Creative Anachronism.
George was also a proud member of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA).
George was also a founding member of Wylde Nept. While with Wylde Nept George was able to compose 2 songs, Wanderlust and Old Green Gown, and added his talent to many others. The band did not just add memories to an already colorful life, it gave George a voice he never knew he had.
He wove a wide tapestry of friendship and was always present with a kind heart. Also a certified minister, George officiated over the weddings of several of his friends and then got married himself in 2018 to his wife Amy. Even though they had just over 5 years together each one was filled with adventures.
George was loved by family and friends, and we will miss him more than he’ll ever know.
