Joy L. Averill
Joy has gone to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus at the age of 93 years. She passed on May 30th, 2023 while residing at Mill Pond care facility in Ankeny, Iowa. She was a Loving Mother, Grandmother, Great grandmother, and Great-Great grandmother.
Joy was employed by the State of Iowa, Medical Library for 42 years as a Librarian. She earned her High School education from St. Joseph’s Academy in Des Moines, Iowa, Her Bachelor’s degree from Drake University and her Master’s degree in Library Science from the University of Northern Iowa.
In January, 1949 she was united in Marriage to Herbert (Russ) Averill. This union resulted in one Son, John in 1950. In the early 1950’s she was a dancer with the Arthur Murray dance group and was seen on TV performing with them in the studio. She received a great amount of pleasure in spending time with family members, picnics and being out doors with bird watching groups.
Joy is survived by her son John and his wife Joyce, two grandchildren, six great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her Father, Mother Hope Irma Shannon, and Sister Joan Hansen.
