Mineko "Minnie" McDowell
Mineko "Minnie" McDowell, 83, of Davenport passed away on March 2, 2017, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa. At Minnie's request, no services will be held.
Minnie was born November 19, 1934, in Okinawa, Japan, where she met and married Ron McDowell in July, 1963. After moving to the United States with Ron, she spent 20 years in Iowa City raising her two children before moving to Davenport, where Minnie became well-known for her relentless work ethic in the Environmental Services Department at Genesis East Hospital. The friendships she made with her co-workers, including her best friend Kerry, were among her most precious memories. When she wasn't working, Minnie enjoyed fishing, gardening, bird-watching, and spending time with her family and friends.
Minnie will be greatly missed by her survivors, including her husband, Ron, and daughter, Mary McDowell, both of Davenport; son Dave (Cindy) McDowell and grandsons, Kyle and Connor McDowell, all of Iowa City; and two brothers, two sisters and many nieces and nephews still living in Okinawa.
The family requests memorials be made in Minnie's name to the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, whose wonderful staff ensured her comfort for many months preceding her death.
