Solveig Winborn Moore

Solveig Waugen Winborn Moore passed away peacefully on April 30, 2024, at Highland Ridge Senior Living Center in Williamsburg, Iowa. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 15, 2024, at First Presbyterian Church, 504 South Highland Street, Williamsburg, Iowa. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Williamsburg. 

Survivors include her son, Erik Winborn (Carol); four grandchildren, Brett Winborn (Christina), Kurt Winborn, Logan Winborn (Taylor), and Kameko Winborn; two great-grandchildren, Luke and Finn Winborn; and nephews, Craig, Ted, and Robert Williams and their families. She was preceded in death by her husband, Karl Winborn; her second husband, Charles Moore; sons, Jeffrey Winborn and Dwight Winborn; sister, Karen Williams; and her parents, John and Kora Waugen.

Solveig was born March 29,1930, in Chicago, Illinois. Her parents immigrated from Harstad, Norway and married in Chicago. As a youth, Solveig attended Des Moines Public Schools and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1948. She attended the University of Iowa until her husband Karl graduated and began service in the Air Force. After Karl died Solveig returned to the University of Iowa. She graduated in 1966 with high distinction with a BBA degree. She was elected to Pi Omega Pi and Beta Gamma Sigma national scholastic honorary societies. She received her MA in business education from Iowa in 1972. She taught in Amana High School (now Clear Creek-Amana) and Williamsburg High School until she retired in 1991. Solveig enjoyed golf, bowling, bridge, political party activities, volunteering, and watching the Hawkeyes. Nothing was more important to her than her family.

Memorial donations may be made in Solveig’s memory to First Presbyterian Church, 504 South Highland, Williamsburg, IA 52361.
