Jan Rae Clearman

Jan Rae Clearman, 84, of Ankeny passed away June 8, 2017 at Sunny View Care Center. 

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. June 20 at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in West Des Moines. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. June 21 at the church.

Jan was born to Thomas Leslie Robinson and Hazel Savannah Robinson on May 1, 1933 in Des Moines. Jan is survived by her children Tom (Beverlee) Clearman, John (Kolette) Clearman, Anna (Dale) Bingham and Jim (Vicky) Clearman; grandchildren Jilian Clearman, Dr. Jennifer (Chris) Hall, Sarah Batchelder, Erin Bingham, Katie Batchelder, P.J. Clearman and Austin Clearman; and two great-grandchildren Natalia Hall and Taryn Hall.  She also leaves behind cousins, John Rabb, Richard Rabb, Sonya Quam,Marylou Kasner, and many special friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Jan graduated from Roosevelt High School in Des Moines and attended Monticello Women’s College in Missouri.  After raising her children, she worked for the Des Moines Botanical Center and Racquet Club West.

She was an active member in many organizations including PEO, Junior League and the American Volkssport Association. She had a passion for playing and watching golf and tennis events.

Jan looked forward to the holidays and any event that brought her together with her family. She also enjoyed the many birthday luncheons she had with longtime, special friends.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Sunny View Care Center and Unity Point Hospice for the wonderful care given to their mother.

Memorials may be made to the Des Moines Botanical Gardens in Jan's name.
