Darlene Merle Sweet, 83, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Sunday, June 4, 2017 at UnityPoint St. Luke’s Hospital.
Per her request there will be no services or visitation. Cremation rites were performed by Iowa Cremation.
Survivors include her two daughters: Kim (Mark) Pond of Ft. Worth, Texas and Rose (William) Balk of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren: John (Stacy) Perez of Van Horne, Ia; Shane (Brittany) Pond and Sierra Pond, all of Ft. Worth, Texas; five great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; as well as many extended family members.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Robert William “Bob” Sweet in 2016, and sister Elaine Kew.
Darlene was born May 10, 1934 in Cass Township, Iowa the daughter of Verni and Loretta Lembke. She married Robert Sweet on May 20, 1952 in New Hampton. They were married for sixty-four years. Darlene worked at home raising her two daughters. She was a member of the Cedar Valley Rock and Gem Society.
Memorial donations in Darlene’s name may be given to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
