John Henry Engelhardt
John Henry Engelhardt, 82 of West Union passed away on November 25, 2023. A celebration of Life will be held on December 15 at 1:00 p.m. at UCC Peace Church located at 221 Oak Street, Fredericksburg, Iowa.
John was born on November 6, 1941, to Philmon and Margaret (Palas) Engelhardt in McGregor, Iowa. John graduated from Waukon High school in 1959. He worked at Hall Roberts’ Son in Postville, where he drove semis and worked in the feed warehouse, retiring after 30 years. He was handy and always worked on his own vehicles and odds and end items in and around the house. If you needed something fixed, he was always willing to lend a hand. In good weather you would either find him at a campground or on his deck having a cold one. He loved to crack a joke or two and get everyone to laugh. Even when his memory was struggling John always found a way to joke around or give someone some guff. He loved giving the staff at the Good Sam a hard time and making them laugh, he really loved joking around with all of them.
John married Evelyn (Bruckner) in 1965 and to that union four children were born: Mike, Melissa, Paul and Preston. They later divorced and he married Flora (McNally) Brink and added seven children and their families to this union. John and Flora resided in Postville and Clermont and then together they moved to Good Samaritan Society in West Union. John and Flora were married until her passing in March 2023.
John is survived by his children, Mike (Michelle) Engelhardt, Fredericksburg, Melissa (Brad) Mohs, Fredericksburg, Paul (Darci) Engelhardt, Luana, Preston (Val) Engelhardt, Jerico, Dwayne “Bud” (Melody) Brink, Postville, Deanna Gearhart, Cedar Rapids, Dean (Bonnie) Brink, Mabel, MN, Deb (Bob) Turner, Sequim, WA, Darnell (France) Stinchcomb, Cheyenne, WY, Darryl (Jean) Brink, Waukon, and Dawnita (Chad) Roemig, Cedar Rapids, three brothers, Wayne (Janice) Engelhardt, Harmony, MN, Ronnie (Henrietta) Engelhardt, Decorah, and Laverne Engelhardt, Charles City. Also, many Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, Great-Great Grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
John is preceded in death by his wife, Flora, his parents Philmon and Margaret, sisters Kay Engelhardt, and Judy McCann and brother-in-law William McCann.
Memorials can be directed to the family or directly to our local Hospice.
