Peter James McGillivray

Peter James McGillivray, 73, of Altoona, died on January 23, 2017, at the VA Central Iowa Health Care System.  Memorial services will be held at a later date in Black River Falls, WI.  Arrangements entrusted to Iowa Cremation.
 
Survivors include his wife Mary Jo McGillivray of Altoona; his children, Andrew (Sandra) McGillivray of Reno,NV, his children Aidan, Molly, Olivia and Ethan; and Jennifer (Matthew) Etling of Altoona, her children Xoe, Sage and K-le; and his siblings, Diane McGrane of New Glarus, WI and William McGillivray of Brooklyn, WI.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents.
 
Peter James McGillivray was born on April 27, 1943, the son of Robert James and Dorothy Alice McGillivray.  He served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart among other medals.  Pete received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business from the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire.  He was united in marriage to Mary Jo Miheve on August 12, 1967 in Aurora, MN.  Pete owned and operated the Thriftway Lumber Company in Wisconsin for many years before the sale of the company.  Later, he worked as a sales representative for 2 floor covering distributors in Colorado. Pete was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, target and trap shooting with his greatest passion being bow hunting and gun hunting big game.  Through his interest in hunting, he became a member of the NRA, Colorado Bowhunters as well as various gun clubs and trap leagues.  Pete was also a member of the Lions Club and enjoyed golfing, playing bridge and reading.
