Gerald Ellsworth Shilling was born on September 28, 1934, in Fontanelle (Adair County), Iowa to Earl and Blanche Shilling. He passed peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday April 8, 2017.
Gerald served the United States Army proudly for 21 years, which included two tours in Korea and one tour in Vietnam.
Gerald married Ingeborg Kastler April 7, 1956 in Berlin, Germany and to this union six children were born. He enjoyed traveling and RVing with his wife, caring for his lawn and working on projects with his brother. The best part of his day was to enjoy a cup of coffee on the front porch and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife and parents; sister, Maxine Harris; brothers: Kenneth Shilling, Billy Shilling, Earl Shilling jr. and Donald Shilling.
He is survived by his children: Kim (Ted) Ford, Angela (Robert) Stutes, Kenneth (Melissa) Shilling, Richard Shilling, Mike Shilling, Douglas (Dawn) Shilling; Ten Grandchildren and Twelve Great Grandchildren. He is also survived by sister, Vina (Darrell) Coffin; and many nieces and nephews.
His final resting place will be at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Mater, Iowa.
