Lorna Wilma Ochs

Lorna Wilma Schade Ochs, 91, passed away June 7, 2017 at Iowa Rive Hospice Home.  Lorna was born March 16, 1926 in Crystal Township, Tama County to Gustave C. and Biena (Lietz) Shade.  She moved to Garwin with her parents in 1936 where she attended school and graduated in 1943.  Lorna was employed as a clerk in the Garwin Post Office and as a bookkeeper at the Waterloo Savings Bank.  After her marriage to Robert Ochs on January 13, 1947, she worked in the family hardware store.  She is survived by three sons: Richard Ochs (Rene’) of Kirksville, MO, James Ochs of Garwin, and Greg Ochs of Garwin, and five grandchildren, Johnathan (Lacy), David (Katie), Amy (Ethan), Jean, and Ryan.  Lorna is preceded in death by her husband Robert, her parents, one brother (Lester) and three sisters (Alta, Helen, and Mildred).

Lorna was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed cooking and making her home a warm and inviting place for family and friends.  She also liked art, music, and gardening.  She lived a simple life of dignity and love.  Watching the sun go down over the hills west of Garwin was a frequent pastime.  One of her favorite Bible verses is reflective of this.  “I lift up my eyes to the hills, from where does my help come?  My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.” (Psalm 121:1-2)

Those who knew her well will miss her greatly.  A memorial gathering is pending.
