Ralph S. Scharbarth
Ralph S. Scharbarth, 78, of Eldora, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2017, at The Village in Indianola surrounded by his family. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, July 28, 2017, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora with Rev. David Splett officiating. Following the service, the family welcomes visitors to the circle shelter on Upper Pine Lake for a picnic and time of remembrance in Ralph’s honor.
Survivors include his wife, Marylin; his son, Robert Scharbarth and wife Sandy of Mooresville, NC and their children, Ashley (Gus) Kern, Amanda (Nick) Kennedy and Ryan (Sarah) Scharbarth; his daughter, Kimberly Smothers and husband Steve of Indianola, and her daughter, Chelsea (Jason) Parrotte, Kim’s stepchildren, Michael (Crissy) Smothers, Kimmi Smothers, and Jenni (Anthony) Wonderlich. Ralph is also survived by his 4 beloved great-grandchildren.
Ralph Sherman Scharbarth was born on January 11, 1939, in Oceanside, California the son of Russell Sherman and Iva Lucille (Hewitt) Scharbarth. He was united in marriage to Marylin Joan Davis on June 7, 1958, in Lancaster, California. Ralph served his country honorably in the United States Air Force, retiring in 1976 after over 20 years of service.
Ralph loved the community of Eldora and served on the Hardin County Fair Board, was a member of American Legion Post 182, and St. Paul Lutheran Church. He had a great love and interest in fishing and enjoyed spending time at the Steppes Family Farm. Ralph proudly served as “honorary grandpa” to many close family friends. Above all, Ralph’s greatest enjoyment was time spent with his grandchildren and family.
Memorial donations may be directed to the family for the future installation of a memorial bench at Pine Lake.
