Herbert L. Dorsey, Sr., 94, of Marion, died on Friday, July 7, 2017 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. No services will be held at this time.
Herbert was born on January 28, 1923 to Fayette and Ruth Bethards Dorsey in Decatur County, Iowa. He proudly served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII. Herbert was united in marriage to Thelma Jane Prosser on September 30, 1946 in Iowa City, Iowa. He worked as a science teacher at McKinley Junior High for 28 years. He also worked as an area coach. Herbert was an avid golfer and enjoyed watching sports. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Thelma Jane; children, Herbert (Kathy) Dorsey, Jr. of Omaha, NE; Elizabeth (Darwin) Coleman of Anamosa; Patricia (Terry) Hart and Barbara Jackson both of Cedar Rapids; and Eden (Mark Mason) Dorsey-Mason of Traer; 12 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild.
Herbert was preceded in death by his parents; a brother; and a sister.
