Myrna Milroy

Myrna May Milroy, 82, of Manchester, went to be with the Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester.  Memorial service will be held on Friday, May 26, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Community Congregational Church in Manchester.  A private family inurnment will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Myrna was born August 28, 1934 the daughter of Aulden and Mildred (Frentriss) Hansel, in Independence, Iowa.  When she was a young girl her family moved to Manchester.  Myrna graduated from Manchester High School with the class of 1952.  In June of 1952, she married Mervyn W. Milroy in Manchester.

After Mervyn served 4 years in the Navy, they moved to Cedar Rapids.  They had three children, who Myrna devoted her life to.  After her husband died in a work accident, in 1973, Myrna went on to manage a women’s clothing store, at Westdale Mall.  She moved back to Manchester in 1979, where she did secretarial work and helped her parents in their final years, before retiring in 2004 at the age of 70.

She enjoyed going to the senior center in Manchester, for lunch, special programs, and especially their Elvis Impersonator.  Myrna also enjoyed playing cards, cooking, playing Bingo and Rummy on her tablet, and connecting with family and friends on Facebook. She was an avid reader, especially paperbacks.  And loved ordering from QVC!!!  Myrna liked to attend her class reunions every year.  She was a member of the Community Congregational Church in Manchester.

Another great love of Myrna’s was her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Each one held a special place in her heart.
Myrna had the quickest wit, an easy laugh and occasionally a sharp tongue!  She handled her diagnosis of lung cancer with grace, strength, and appreciation for the time to share stories, laughter and prepare for her journey ahead. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.

Survivors include her children; Marilyn (Dan) Dolan of Rogers, AR; Curt (Rebecca) Milroy of Birmingham, AL; Diana (Joe) Booth of Shellsburg, IA; a sister, Gayle Jensen of California; brother-in-law, Frank Mead of Delhi; sister-in-law, Arbutus Davis of Cedar Rapids; 8 grandchildren: Michele Jandik, Michael Jandik, Matthew Milroy, Christopher Milroy, Madison Milroy, Michael Cairy, Andrew Cairy, and Ben Cairy; 5 great grandchildren: Shelby Hornaday, Charlie Hornaday, Carson Cairy, Nolan Cairy, and Gabriella Cairy; many nieces, nephews, extended family and neighbors, who became dear friends.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, husband, sister; Greta Mead, and a sister-in-law, Twyla Milroy.

The family wishes to thank the many nurses of Medical Regional Hospice for their kindness and care of Myrna.  All of whom Myrna had grown to love.  Also the staff at the Good Neighbor Home.  Though her stay was brief, her care was attentive and done with compassion.  Also all of Myrna’s family and friends, who kept her in their thoughts, prayers and actions.  Each of you meant so much to her.
