Rose Pierce

Rose A. Pierce, 86, of Waterloo, died at home on March 5, 2017.

She was born on January 18, 1931 to Lester and Dorotha Parris on the same farm her family owned as a Heritage Farm for over 150 years.  She was the 5th generation to live on this family farm. She graduated from Orange Township High School in May of 1948.  She attended the University of Northern Iowa for one year, then attended Iowa State University. She married Jim Pierce, October 28, 1950.  Rose had three girls, Jacque (1951), Jill (1954), and Jayne (1958).  She was "Mother Rose" to all of their friends and when the grandsons came, "Grandma Rose".

She spent a lot of her time volunteering; as a local 4-H leader (20 years), then was the County 4-H Horse & Pony project leader (35 years).  She was also on the Black Hawk County Fair board for 35 years.  She was active with the Black Hawk Creek Saddle Club through her children, grandchildren, and many others riding her horses at Triple J Farm and at the shows.  Rose was a member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church for over 60 years.

Warren Turner, her special friend, moved to the farm.  Rose became "Grandma" to all of his grandchildren.

Rose is survived by her three daughters, Jacque (Ralph) Hodson, Jill E. Ford, Jayne (Grant) Ferguson; nine grandchildren: Dr William (Stephanie) Marsau; Cash (Kristen) Hodson, Clay Hodson, Dr Clinton Hodson, and Cody Hodson; Levi Ferguson, Dawson Ferguson; Kelsey Ford and Kyle Ford; and one great grandson, Matthew Marsau.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Jim Pierce, and Warren Turner.

Services will be held at St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Hudson on March 25, 2017.  Visitation will begin at 9 a.m., with funeral services following at 11 a.m.   A lunch will be provided in the fellowship hall following the service.  All are welcome.  Burial of ashes will follow later at Orange Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the family. Gifts will be divided among St. Timothy Lutheran Church, Cedar Valley Hospice, and to a 4-H scholarship to graduating senior planning to attend ISU majoring in an Ag related field.
